Local volunteers have planted close to 2,000 trees over the last few days and many more are on the way.

Further planting sessions are taking place on most days in the run up to Christmas so if people would like to play a part in the community-led initiative they can book to help in a planting session at Sevenoaks Rec.

The project is being coordinated by Treebourne, part of the Eastbourne Eco Action Network, which is aiming to plan 11,000 trees at Sevenoaks Road Recreation Ground followed by a further 3,000 at Tugwell Park in Hampden Park in the new year.

Fundraising for the projects has included support from the Trees for Cities charity and the government’s Urban Tree Challenge Fund, East Sussex County Council’s Building Stronger Communities Fund, as well as donations to the Treebourne crowdfunder campaign earlier this year.

Councillors in Langney, Hampden Park and St Anthony’s have also made contributions from their devolved budgets.
