Young ‘Olympians’ visit Arundel

OLYMPIC dreams came true for this band of primary school children on Friday, when they became torchbearers and Olympians for a day.

Dozens of pupils, parents and teachers from Arundel CE Primary School, in Jarvis Road, took part in a special Olympic-themed walk through the town, as part of the National Walk to School week.

Youngsters donned their Speedos, swimming goggles and jogging shorts for the walk, which saw the intrepid band of “Olympians” stroll from the doctors’ surgery, in Canada Road, to the school’s gates.

Plenty of sports were represented by the budding athletes, from gymnastics and tennis, to athletics, swimming and even canoeing, as part of the school’s innovative walking bus scheme.

The initiative is designed to promote a healthier lifestyle, by getting people walking to school, instead of driving.
