Youngsters take to the stage in Annie

Youngsters got a very early taste of the acting life when they took to the stage at The Pavilion Theatre.

The children, from The Laurel’s Primary School, in Durrington, entertained an audience of 350 parents and friends with their version of Annie.

The title role of the little orphan girl went to six-year-old Eleanor Crystal, who had never been in a school play before.

School secretary Helen Attwood said: “She did brilliantly. It went really well and was a very good night.”

The part of the orphanage’s nasty manager, Miss Hannigan, was played by Emilia Warr, 9, while Annie’s dog, Sandy, was played by eight-year-old Morticia Goldsbrough.

Described as a “huge effort”, the whole play was brought together by deputy headteacher Arris Shanahan.
