But now The Old School House in Ham Road is home to the free Monday night youth drop-in, organised by the charity ESTEEM.

In addition, owing to a partnership between ESTEEM and fellow charity Company Paradiso, and funded by Adur Community Grants Scheme, a new Wednesday night drop-in has been launched.

Young people have called it The Rally Project, and while it is currently a pilot, they hope to extend it into a permanent service in the near future.

ESTEEM’s main aim is to empower young people aged 14-26 years, helping to build confidence and provide a range of opportunities in both self and career development.

Company Paradiso is a team of professional artists and youth leaders, and its aim is to work creatively with people, enabling them to tell their stories through mentoring programmes and a range of arts projects.

The drop-in run every Monday and Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm at The Old School House.

They offer a friendly, relaxed environment for young people to engage in group activities, socialise and share a meal together.

Lewis, a young person attending, said: “I am interested in the drop-in as a new opportunity, as a way of seeing different people and as a way to learn new things”.

Amy said: “It is a little rough around the edges, but it does seem to be a really friendly and supportive environment. Plus, free food!”

Anyone interested in attending, or who would like further details to refer on to a young person, should contact Jon Potter of Company Paradiso on 01273 440277, or email [email protected]
