Seven catering and cleaning apprentices were presented with certificates at Care South’s Sussexdown care home on Friday August 16.

The ceremony was the brainchild of head chef Dickie Dore.

He said: “I just thought they deserved a ceremony as a reward for all their hard work, determination and dedication. They’ve all done exceptionally well.”

The care home has been working with Hospitality Industry Traning (HIT), the UK’s leading provider of hospitality training, to gain apprenticeships.

Dickie reserved special praise for his apprentice, Dan Towell, 24.

He added: “I recognised that he had such potential instantly. He has come on in leaps and bounds through the HIT programme.

“Dan is now my deputy head chef and his self confidence has really improved.

“He has worked hard to get his qualifications and has proved he can help run a working kitchen with a professional attitude.”
