The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Edward House in Mill Road on December 5, last year, and gave it an overall ‘requires improvement’ rating.
Some improvements had been made since the last inspection, the CQC report said, however there remained continued concerns about safety at the home.

The CQC report also said care was not always provided in a way that was responsive to people’s needs and people were not supported to follow their interests or to engage in meaningful occupation – with some people saying they were bored and did not have enough to do.
In response, a spokesman for the care home said: “We acknowledge that, at the time of the CQC inspection on December 5, 2019, Edward House was experiencing some difficulties and standards at the home fell below what we would expect.
“However, since that time, we have employed a new experienced manager and have been working closely with CQC and the local authority to bring about improvements in the standard of care including through: the recruitment of new staff; training; refurbishment of the home; and the provision of new equipment.”
