Mayor Phil Woodall commended the hard work of healthcare staff calling them 'heroes' in a video statement on Wednesday (April 3).

"During this difficult time we must all stick together and follow the advice the government and the medical professionals are giving us. Unfortunately isolation can be very difficult for some people, especially those who live alone.

"Please think of those people. If they are your neighbours maybe you can give them a call from time to time, I'm sure they would appreciate it."

He added: "This is a sad time for me too in many ways because I can't see my family and unfortunately I have had to cancel all my engagements for the foreseeable future which is a shame because you all know I like meeting with you and having a laugh.

"Please take care of yourselves and your loved ones. We will get through this if we work together."

He went on to urge resident to contact their local councillors and the available support groups.
