The Four Streets Project, which offers food and support for rough sleepers 365 days a year, will no longer send volunteers along North, East, South and West Street but will instead offer a hot food service from St Pancras Church.

The decision was made to protect rough sleepers and volunteers from contracting the virus.

A Four Streets spokesman said in a letter to volunteers: "With the growing coronavirus crisis, there are two key priorities for Four Streets; to minimise the chances of spreading the virus between our volunteers and our homeless people to protect everybody’s health.

"To ensure that we have a robust system which will be able to continue even if some of our food suppliers close down or are no longer able to supply us with food during the outbreak."

The new operational format began on Monday (March 23).
