Coronavirus: Pub near Midhurst offers delivery service to help elderly residents

The Elsted Inn in Elsted Road will deliver hot meals to people who are living in the area.

Landlady Thais Robertson said the pub is also hoping to organised deliveries of essentials through wholesales as panic-buying leads to a shortage of stock in supermarkets.

She said: "Whilst we are allowed to remain open we are. We are luck that we can be incredibly flexible.

"We are offering affordable meals which people can collect of we can deliver it to them. Everything we bring in is fresh and locally sourced."

The pub is working with the parish council to carry out the deliveries.

A statement from the pub on Facebook said: "We, at The Elsted are offering a ‘takeaway service’ of an affordable meal each day to anyone who cannot/should not get out and about. We will obviously deliver to your door step locally, if possible.

"Over the coming few days we will be taking donations for a little community food bank, which we hope will ease the necessity for our older neighbours to try and get into towns."
