The East Sussex Conservative Group has taken the decision despite the government allowing canvassing to go ahead from March 8.

According to the group, they will still be delivering ‘election literature’ to inform the public of their candidates.

Leader of the East Sussex Conservative Group Councillor Keith Glazier said, “We value people’s safety in these difficult times and whilst the UK government has given its approval for door-to-door canvassing, we believe many people would not appreciate it, and rather we didn’t.

“However we do want to have conversations with residents, so we will be calling people on the telephone and communicating via our candidates’ election literature which will have the candidates’ contact details.”

Chairman of the Eastbourne Conservative Association and county councillor Colin Belsey said, “I think that this decision is totally correct and hope that other parties might consider similar action.

“I will be out delivering leaflets and as ever very willing to accept phone calls, emails and other ways of contact”
