Eastbourne has the lowest covid rate in the South East

Eastbourne has the lowest rate of coronavirus cases in the region – according to Government data.

The town has a rolling rate of 4.8 with five total cases in the seven days up to May 7.

The government calculates the rolling rate by combining each day’s observation with the previous three days and the following three days as the mean of all seven days’ figures is presented.

The areas with the worst rolling rates in the South East are Thanet with 20.4, Adur with 20.2 and Crawley with 19.6.

In comparison with the worst affected area of the country, Erewash in Derbyshire has a rolling rate of 201.1

Lewes had the second lowest rolling rate in the region with 5.8 while Epsom and Ewell and Folkestone and Hythe had rates of 6.2.

According to the Government seven–day rates are expressed per 100,000 population and are calculated by dividing the seven day count by the area population and multiplying by 100,000.
