"It's horrible and stressful as a parent," said wedding and event manager Zoe Pniewski, "my son has been at school at school for four days. He started on Monday.

"He developed a cough and as per the instructions we kept him off school and were told to get him tested."

Zoe began her mission to get a test for her son on Friday and worked through to Sunday with little success.

"It is convoluted, complicated and stressful. The information on the website was very badly worded and not informative.

"The whole process is flawed from start to finish. There were no home testing kits available — we were glued to the laptop."

When Zoe did hear back she was told her to drive to Winchester, more than 40 miles from her home.

Having been told a number of times that there was no availability at her local testing sites in Tangmere and Gatwick, Zoe and her son arrived in Winchester to find that they were the only expectant testees there.

"There were five or six marshalls but nobody else," she added, "it's diabolical."
