Here's how to get a Covid-19 jab from a new mobile vaccination service in Brighton this weekend

Tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday, vaccination sessions are taking place outside St Peter’s Church in York Place, between 10.30am and 2.30pm.

Pre-booked appointments are available for anyone eligible and there will be a limited number of drop-in appointments. One form of ID (photo ID not required) is needed along with an NHS number, if known.

Anyone over the age of 50 years old is eligible for the free vaccination in the community, along with those who are aged under 50 and have a serious long term health issue, and unpaid carers. If you are eligible and are yet to receive your vaccination, simply call 0300 303 8060 to book your appointment with the community service.

The community vaccine sessions have been organised as part of a new campaign to combat any barriers stopping people getting their Covid-19 vaccination by taking the vaccine to local residents in the heart of their communities.

The ‘No one’s safe until we’re all safe’ campaign was launched earlier this month by the local NHS and Brighton and Hove City Council to ensure no-one misses out on their Covid-19 vaccine offer, and to make it as easy as possible for people to get the protection they need to stay safe.

Nicola Rosenberg, Public Health Consultant with Brighton & Hove City Council said: "It’s vitally important that all the people who want to be immunised against Covid-19 can get their vaccination as quickly and easily as possible. Not everybody is able to get to appointments at the main centres, for many reasons, so taking vaccinations directly to people like this is a great way to reach everyone who wants a vaccination.

“We’re working closely with communities and residents to make sure all areas and groups in the city are covered so that everyone has an equal opportunity to get their jab.”

As part of the campaign, community-based services are taking the vaccine closer to where people live and work, and to specific communities where uptake of the Covid-19 vaccine has been low.

The campaign includes outreach services, work with communities to support the diverse communities in the city to understand any barriers to them receiving it, as well as clear information across the city on the vaccination programme that is targeted to communities, written in community languages.

Dr Elizabeth Gill, chief medical officer for Sussex, said: "This will help to make sure every can access the vaccine, and we are to listening to our communities and finding real solutions to any barriers they may face.

“Encouraging take-up of the vaccine will save lives. We are committed to supporting everyone across our communities to have their vaccination and that is why we are launching ‘No one’s safe until we’re all safe’ campaign for Brighton and Hove with the city council.”

More Covid-19 community vaccination sessions are being planned for further sites across the city. They are being provided the HERE GP Federation, which is also running the vaccination service at Brighton Racecourse.
