More people in Horsham die of Covid-19 - but infection rate slows

A total of 22 more people in the Horsham district have died of Covid-19 over the past week - but there have been fewer infections.

As the number of deaths across Britain soared past 100,000, figures from Public Health England show that the total number of people in the Horsham area who have died of the virus since the pandemic began now stands at 157.

Last week the total who died within 28 days of testing positive stood at 135.

But, despite the rise in the number of deaths over the past week, fewer people tested positive for Covid within the last seven days.

That number stood at 375, down from 717 the previous week.

The current death rate per 100,000 people in the Horsham district now stands at 109.2 and the rate of infection per 100,000 is 260.8 - down from 498,6 the previous week.

The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in Crawley this week stood at 654, down from 1,117 the previous week.

And in Chichester, 429 people tested positive this week, down from 554 the previous week.
