From today (December 24) until Boxing Day, anyone with symptoms of Covid-19 can book a test at the drive-through site in Pound Street car park.

Petworth Town Council said it was informed by West Sussex County Council of the decision late on Tuesday night, adding: "This happened all very quickly."

A spokesperson added: "We have been working with Chichester District Council to manage the parking so that there is enough for those who plan to come and shop over the next few days."

The site is open from 10am until 4pm today (December 24), from 10am until 3pm on Christmas Day and from 9am until 5pm on Boxing Day.

A county council spokesperson added: "If you have developed any symptoms, including a new continuous cough, a high temperature and/or loss of taste and smell, please isolate and book a test immediately."
