Tributes paid to ‘highly-valued and dedicated’ Eastbourne ambulance worker

Tributes have been paid to a ‘highly-valued and dedicated’ Eastbourne ambulance worker who died of Covid-19.

Pete Harrison contracted the virus shortly before Christmas and tragically passed away In January.

Mr Harrison worked with the South East Coast Ambulance Service while also holding a job at Tesco.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said, “Today we pay our respects to Pete Harrison from our fleet team who sadly passed away last month after becoming ill with coronavirus shortly before Christmas and whose funeral is taking place at Eastbourne today (February 16).

“Pete was a highly-valued and dedicated member of our fleet team, working as a vehicle commissioning and decommissioning assistant for three years. He will be sorely missed by his SECAmb colleagues and friends.”

The ambulance service’s fleet commissioning manager, Stewart Neve said, “He was a kind and caring colleague who was thought a lot of by everyone who worked with him. Nothing was ever too much trouble and he would never hesitate to assist others and ensure a good job was done right first time.

“Pete will be sorely missed by his SECAmb colleagues and friends and our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.”

Mr Harrison’s cousin, Sarah Laycock, set up a fund raising page so donations could be made towards the funeral but once that was paid for the page for left open so money could be given to Air Ambulance Kent Surrey Sussex.

The organisation provides emergency medical service to those in need through the use of air ambulances.
