Members are also paying for six nebulisers to be used by patients elsewhere in the community.

Breath Easy Mid Sussex holds several awareness events throughout the year and its proactive endeavours have been recognised with the British Lung Foundation’s ‘Breath of Fresh Air Award’. Supporters also raise funds whenever they can including through a sponsored walk by members this year.

Chairperson Jennifer Ellingwood said most of its fund raising was put to use within the local community with other funds going to the research programme into lung disease run by the British Lung Foundation, of which it is a part.

This week volunteers will be making a donation to Mid Sussex Health Care for the training of a practice nurse specialising in the care of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, at Hassocks Health Centre.

Six Nebulisers will also be supplied to the Respiratory Community Team in Mid Sussex as well as a donation of toiletries to the Princess Royal Hospital for patients admitted via A&E.
