The week runs from Monday November 18 to Sunday November 24.

Cllr Sue Rogers, Horsham District Council’s cabinet member for a safer and healthier district, said: “It may be surprising to hear that regular drinking can be just as harmful to your body as binge drinking.

“In fact, drinking just one large glass of wine or two pints of beer on five nights of the week is classed as risky drinking and can damage your health in the long term.

“Anyone who drinks above the recommended limit could be putting their health at risk. Alcohol Awareness Week is an opportunity for us all to reassess our drinking habits.”

In the second annual West Sussex Life report, published by West Sussex County Council in September, it was revealed that there are more regular underage binge drinkers in Horsham than in any other district in the county.

Excessive alcohol consumption can have long term health impacts and can be a contributing factor to illnesses such as heart disease, liver disease, cancer, high blood pressure, depression and anxiety. It can impact upon everyday life as well as affect friends and family.
