Lewes council leader in self-isolation after family member contracts coronavirus

This week, Lewes council leader Zoe Nicholson confirmed she is self-isolating – in line with Government advice – as a family member has contracted Covid-19.

Cllr Nicholson (Green, Lewes Bridge) is continuing to work from home, but thanked well-wishers for their support.

She said: “I’d like to thank all the kind and thoughtful good wishes we have received at this difficult time.

“The family is self-isolating and in good spirits.  

“I’d encourage all residents to follow the guidance from Public Health England, keep washing those hands and isolating themselves if they have any symptoms.

“This is such a tough time for people, especially our elderly and more vulnerable residents, so let’s all do everything we can to help any neighbours we who are in this position.”

The news of Cllr Nicholson’s self-isolation comes as the council announced plans to postpone all its planning, licensing and non-decision making meetings, until new measures are available from Government. 

These measures are expected to include a change in law to allow meetings to take place virtually, something which is currently prohibited.

Cabinet decisions will continue to be made by Cllr Nicholson during this time, with cabinet councillors meeting remotely to debate the agenda before anything is signed off.
