Matthew Parker, from Wakehurst Road, is asking residents with leftover bottles of hand sanitiser and anti-bacterial wipes to offer them to the elderly residents he has volunteered to look after during the coronavirus crisis.

He said he has struggled to get the specific hygiene supplies from local supermarkets, which he puts down to people still panic buying.

He said, “If you have got a few bottles extra, please take them to the elderly. Some of the people have just come out of hospital.

“Most of them don’t have their family to look after them. They are vulnerable. They are scared. They just need hygiene products to put their minds at ease.

“Stop bulk buying, there is no need for it. Think about the vulnerable people who are desperate for it.”

Matthew, who signed up to the NHS volunteer scheme at the start of lockdown on March 24, said he visits up to eight people a day and is ‘always on call’ throughout the week.
