Currently almost one in five adults in West Sussex smoke, but national figures show that two out of three smokers want to stop.

Smokers are up to four times more likely to quit successfully with the support of the NHS Stop Smoking Service.

The team will also have local advisors in pharmacies and GP surgeries across the county.

Children and family centres have trained advisors or can access the stop smoking service via the centre throughout the year.

Lesley Berry, SCT stop smoking service manager, said: “We know that there are more than 117,000 smokers in West Sussex and many of them want to quit. We helped more than 4,000 people quit smoking last year and now is the perfect time for other smokers to join them. The huge improvement you could make to your health will also benefit your finances as the average pack of cigarettes costs £7.46 which is approximately £2,722 per year!

“Quitting smoking isn’t easy but our support really does help. Our local advisors will provide you with free expert advice, access to medication and support tailored to what you need. There are group sessions, one-to-one support or phone advice – lots of options to support you as much as possible during your quit attempt.”
