Open verdict in sheltered housing death

A coroner has returned an open verdict into an 88-year-old woman's death in sheltered housing.

Jean Smith’s body was found in her flat by the manager of Silverwood Court, Wakehurst Place, Rustington surrounded by upturned furniture on August 30.

She was last seen by her downstairs neighbour on August 18, who also heard loud bangs coming from her room.
