Geoff and Mike Batchelor, brothers who sell haylage from Tickfold Farm, Marches Road, had the idea after they heard that pink plastic wrapping was available.

Geoff told the County Times they had been contacting plastic suppliers when they heard about one which was selling pink plastic to raise funds for a breast cancer charity, and to raise awareness of the problem.

“Every roll of plastic they sell, there’s one pound being donated to breast cancer charities. We thought that was a good idea, and for each bale that we sell, we will do the same - send money to Cancer Research.”

He said they do something for charity each year, and the reaction to this idea has been ‘brilliant’.

“Nearly everyone’s said that they know someone with breast cancer, or has had, or is going through it. Most of the people in the equestrian industry that we supply are female, so it’s a good line to go down.”

The haylage is now maturing, and will be ready to go on sale at the beginning of August.
