Jesus Esteban Medina Cruz, 43, was found at his home in Cambridge Road on March 28.

An inquest into his death, held in Hastings on Tuesday (September 29), heard Mr Cruz, originally from Spain, had suffered with poor mental health and had separated from his wife shortly after the birth of their second child.

A toxicology report found Mr Cruz, who worked at HMP Lewes, was found with a ‘fatally toxic’ level of antihistamines in his system at the time of his death.

He was found by two police officers lying on his bathroom floor, after his ex-wife reported concern for his welfare, following a text Mr Cruz had sent his brother saying goodbye.

Assistant coroner for East Sussex Fiona King returned a conclusion Mr Cruz had taken his own life.
