Ringmer pool: Learning to swim is a vital life skill

We are saddened to hear that ESCC has put Ringmer pool on a three month roll-over contract with Wave Leisure.

Many of us served as a volunteer lifeguards there for many years until sky-high insurance premiums saw Freedom Leisure take over the first contract for staffing of the pool.

What is vital and hard to measure is the sense of community Ringmer pool holds so dearly.

Our son and many of his friends from Barcombe School learnt to swim there and birthday swim parties were held at the pool.

We feel that learning to swim is a vital life skill and less pools equals less opportunities.

We live in Barcombe and find it easier to use Ringmer pool as it is nearer than Lewes.

Others travel from other villages to swim at Ringmer, some from as far as Blackboys.

As Ringmer expands there will be even more users of the pool.

If there is no pool they will have to travel to Lewes, creating more car journeys. Ringmer students would also need to travel to Lewes for lessons, putting more pressure on that pool and even more traffic on the roads.
