Staff member at Horsham pub tests positive for Covid-19

A member of staff at a Horsham pub has tested positive for coronavirus.

Pub chain Greene King has confirmed that an employee at The Sussex Barn pub in North Heath Lane has the virus and that other staff members are now self-isolating.

A spokesman said: “We have taken all the necessary steps after one of our team received a positive test result for Covid-19 recently.

“The team member concerned has not worked at the pub for over a week and two other team members are also self-isolating as a precaution as they came into close contact with the individual.

“The pub continues to undergo rigorous cleaning on a daily basis as part of our ‘Pub Safe’ promises to customers on hygiene.

“Since reopening, all our team are asked about symptoms and temperature checked before every shift and anyone displaying symptoms is asked to self-isolate and take a test.

“We have full NHS Test & Trace contact data available at the pub if the local health authority needed to contact anyone but we haven’t received any requests for this nor have we been notified of any further cases.”

A Horsham District Council spokesperson said: “Horsham District Council was notified by Sussex Police this morning regarding the situation at The Sussex Barn , Horsham.

“The council is continuing to work with businesses to help them understand the Government guidelines for their industry and advise them about putting adequate Covid-safe measures in place to protect customers, patrons and their staff.

“Residents can report a business where they believe customers may be breaching the government guidance to Sussex Police using their coronavirus (Covid-19) service.”
