Total number of coronavirus cases in Chichester revised after new data added

Public Health England publishes the total number of coronavirus cases in each area everyday.

However until Thursday (July 2), it had only included the data from positive tests carried out in NHS settings, such as labs and hospitals, known as pillar 1.

The new data – known as pillar 2 – includes results of positive tests carried out at home or at drive-through centres.

The combined data shows that Chichester has recorded 268 positive cases of the virus in total, with a rate of infection of 221.9 per 100,000 people.

In West Sussex, the combined data shows that a total of 2,679 people in West Sussex have tested positive for the virus – an increase of 1,299 since the new data was included.

The rate of infection in West Sussex now stands at 312 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the England average of 436.
