Two Eastbourne seafront hotel residents die

Two homeless people placed in an Eastbourne hotel by Brighton council have died.

The authority moved 134 people from the city to Eastbourne hotels including the Marine Parade Hotel on the seafront.

One person who was housed there died in hospital after emergency services were called to what was described as a medical incident on the afternoon of Saturday September 19.

The Herald understands that another person was also found dead in one of the bedrooms on a separate date.

Inquests are due to be opened and adjourned but the Herald understands the deaths are not being treated as suspicious.

Brighton & Hove City council recently came under fire from Eastbourne council and other organisations for placing homeless people in the town with no support.

Brighton council has said it is relocating those people back to the city but has not yet confirmed a date.
