Uckfield civil servant died at home

A 48-year-old man died at his home in Uckfield after taking a cocktail of alcohol and tranquilizers, an inquest has heard.

Geoffrey Mark Alabaster was found dead at his home in Oakley Court, Selby Road, on November 1 2019.

An inquest at Eastbourne Town Hall on Wednesday (September 23), heard Mr Alabaster, a civil servant, had a long history of alcohol problems and addiction to tranquilizers and also suffered with mental health issues.

He had been in rehabilitation centres to treat his addictions but Mr Alabaster had disengaged with the services trying to help him and his family said he had not been looking after himself properly especially since the death of his mother.

His body was discovered by a neighbour.

The inquest heard his death was due to toxicity of alcohol and drugs.

East Sussex coroner James Healy-Pratt ruled that Mr Alabaster’s death was alcohol related.
