Possible day trippers planning to travel to Brighton and Hove this weekend have been urged to stay at home.

Due to the spread of coronavirus, the Government has brought in social distancing measures and told people not to travel except for essential tasks.

But with the country enjoying beautiful spring sunshine this week, it may be tempting for some to head to the seaside over the next few days.

In a video message Nancy Platts, leader of Brighton and Hove City Council, urged visitors to stay away.

She said: “Usually we welcome visitors to Brighton and Hove, but this weekend we are asking people to stay away from our city.

“We are asking people to stay away from our city because of the coronavirus. We need to protect the people that live here and we need to give our NHS a fighting chance of saving people’s lives and battling the coronavirus. Please don’t come to Brighton and Hove this weekend.

“Your action could save lives, thank you.”
