Worthing Pier walk to raise money for Jenni’s One Wish

WALKERS braved the rain on Saturday, July 16, to help a mother with advanced cancer have her dream wedding.

Jenni Mann, 34, was diagnosed with incurable cervical cancer in June.

Now, her friends, Hayley Light and Mandy Foster, are fund-raising to pay for her dream wedding.

On Saturday, more than 50 of Jenni’s friends walked from Worthing to Brighton to give their efforts a boost.

“By the end of the week we should find out how much we have raised,” said Hayley.

“Obviously, different people raised different amounts.

“One person had about £100 and another had £600.”

Jenni, who lived in Shoreham for most of her life, only got engaged to her fiancé, Jordan, shortly before her diagnosis.

After experiencing pain earlier this year she was rushed to hospital on June 19.

A few days later, doctors confirmed she had advanced cervical cancer which had spread to her back.

After the diagnosis, Jenni told her friends her one wish was to have her wedding day, leading Hayley and Mandy to set up the One Wish donation fund in her name.

Hayley said Jenni was “over the moon” about the number of people who had taken the time to take part in Saturday’s walk.

“She is really touched by how many people got involved and how kind people have been,” she said.

Jenni is currently in hospital in Devon so was unable to attend Saturday’s sponsored walk.

She did, however, manage to speak to the walkers via speaker-phone at the end of their route.

The next One Wish fund-raising event is a football fun day at Shoreham Football Club, in Middle Road, Shoreham, on Saturday, August 6, with players from the club playing a team from the Waterside Inn.

Gates will open at 5pm with a £5 entrance fee for adults.

The football match will kick-off at 1pm, with a demonstration by the Hove boxing team at 4pm and a grand raffle draw at 5pm.

Throughout the day there will be market stalls, refreshments, face painting and music.

In the clubhouse, men will be sponsored to have their legs waxed for the fund.

In total, Hayley is hoping to raise £10,000 to pay for Jenni’s dream wedding, booked for October 15.
