Athletes and prefects

This hearty gang of sun worshippers are members of Amateur Athletic Club enjoying rest and relaxation on the beach - the year is 1954.

The photograph was supplied by Ingrid Crouch who says it was taken just off the Clock Tower.

She remembers some names but not all and would like to know if anyone else recognises faces in the lineup.

She is centre back and the girl next to her, she thinks, was called Carol.

Ingrid said: “There is Andy Anderson who sadly departed not that long ago, he is top left. Then there is Don Cannons who is fourth from right, and Dave Woodley fourth from left. We were all from Bexhill Amateur Athletic club.”

She has also submitted a photo of Down School pupils in 1955 - these are the Harvest Festival prefects.

Their names are Gwen Kyle, Valerie Baker, Pat Wootton, Jean King, Julie Langridge, Ingrid Crouch (Freeman), Jean Hayday, Jeanette McGilvrey, Wendy Hoad, Marie Betts, Suzette Lebeau, Dorothy Martin, Mary Duffet, Ting Cotton, Betty Winbourn, Hazel Fitzsimmons, Anne Jones, and Janet Ellis.
