Bexhill couple swapped outfits for VE Day

She said: “My parents, sadly deceased, exchanged their clothing (uniforms) on VE Day. Dad’s parents lived in Amherst Road and my father was born in Amherst Road.

“My Dad joined the Royal Air Force as a boy entrant and stayed until retirement. He was an MT (motor transport). He served in Germany after the war and we were stationed in Aden and Malta.

“He also served in Borneo and received a certificate of meritorious service in 1966. My mum was mentioned in the Queen’s New Year Honours for her civil service in 1973.”
