A new exhibition celebrating Southwick St John Ambulance has opened at Manor Cottage.

Displays tell the story of the achievements of Southwick St John Ambulance over the last 80 years and give information on its activities today.

The exhibition, entitled Southwick St John Ambulance Past and Present, includes contrasting equipment from the early 1900s and the present day, as well as many photographs.

It is hoped that visitors will be able to identify people in the pictures.

The now disbanded Southwick St John’s Band has the honour of appearing at the Royal Tournament and this is remembered through the drum major’s mace and pictures of the event.

The first aid champions cover a vast range of duties, administering to those in need.

The group is always looking for new members. Adult meetings are held on Thursdays from 8pm to 10pm at the St John headquarters in The Twitten, Southwick.

Southwick Society secretary Nigel Divers said: “The Southwick Society is delighted to be able to support Southwick St John Ambulance as they do so much to help the local community.

“We would urge everybody to come along to Manor Cottage to find out more about the great organisation and its activities, past and present.”

Admission is free and the St John exhibition will be open on Saturday and August 6, 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Manor Cottage Heritage Centre, a 15th century timber-framed hosue at 16 Southwick Street, Southwick, also has displays about Southwick’s Great War and Southwick’s Roman villa.
