Crowds turned out in 1947 to wave off the Boxing Day hunt
Protests, scuffles and outright punch-ups have greeted the hunts in recent years, with many asking whether the pastime has a place in the 21st century.

Among them were Mr and Mrs Endeman, of Slinfold, who are pictured on their horses outside W Oldershaw’s clothing shop, which was situated opposite the bandstand.
Another picture shows a gaggle of schoolboys walking alongside the horses as the Crawley and Horsham Foxhounds made their way towards Sun Oak from Domesday Green, Mannings Heath.
The final picture shows Crawley and Horsham hunt members who had set aside their red jackets in favour of cricket whites for a match against the men of the Southdown Hunt.
