Looking back at Battle Bonfire 2010

Battle Bonfire ten years ago was hailed a huge success by the organisers and emergency services, despite a delay to the firework display due to an unfortunate accident.

Spectators witnessed a bigger bonfire than ever before and what was described as one of the best firework displays the town had known.

Around 25,000 people piled into the area and Sussex Police commented on the great family atmosphere, with very little trouble reported.

Organisers at Battel Bonfire Boyes said a huge thank you and well done to all those who helped. The street collection was much appreciated and the £4,053.10 raised was distributed to local charities after the event.

St John Ambulance and South East Coast Ambulance Service provided first aid cover and dealt with a number of minor injuries. Unfortunately, an injury to one of the BBB members, resulting in a broken bone to the foot, meant an ambulance had to be called to the fire site, delaying the firework display.

The age old problem of people walking in the entrance and coming to a halt meant many spectators could not get on to the battlefield, even though the site could have coped with more people.
