VE Day in Emsworth: Can you identify anyone in these victory party pictures from 1945?

The Covid-19 lockdown might have put paid to plans for traditional street parties to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day and even museum exhibitions looking back at the occasion.

But supporters of Emsworth’s Museum do not want the anniversary to go past unheralded and have asked us to publish these photos of a street party held in the town’s South Street on the big day, May 8, 1945.

It was a grand occasion and the pictures show local youngsters enjoying the fun, while the image below right is ‘the mothers who made it happen’.

Museum volunteers hope readers will supply names for some of the others.

If you can identify anyone, email info@emsworth museum.org.uk, phone 01243 378091 or put a note through the museum letterbox.
