HISTORICAL researcher Ian Hilder of Barcombe sent in this photograph postcard which shows a group of what is probably domestic staff in and beside a huge stone archway entrance which has a room above and a castellated roofline.
Said Ian: ‘It is a group of servants in front of the water tower at Sutton Hall, Barcombe.
‘It was sent by “dad’’ to Master G. C. Brown in Christchurch on November 12, 1912.
‘I wonder if anyone can name any of the people - or the donkey! I have not been able to find any clues as to the Brown family from the 1911 census.’
