A hand axe that could be 600,000 years old

This palaeolithic hand axe was found recently in a ploughed field near Barcombe.

According to the latest Sussex Archaelogical Collections, the axe was one of several that have been found in the region.

One Dr Matthew Pope was quoted as having examined the bi-faced stone implement and confirmed that it could be anywhere between 60,000 and 600,000 years old!

Quite a span of centuries.
