A slice of Lewes as it was

Lewes High Street.
Lewes High Street.

THIS interesting photograph, sent in by Terry Shearing, shows the eastern end of Lewes High Street, near Library Corner, in the 1960s.

In the left foreground is the Seveirg Building which, reputedly, was the name of the owner, Grieves, in reverse.

‘An interesting thing to do,’ says Terry. ‘Was it named that way for religious reasons?’

The old railway viaduct makes an interesting statement in the distance.
