An intimate performance by rising star from Canada

A gem of Kings Road, St Leonards, the Kave Gallery lived up to its burgeoning reputation by hosting Canadian folk singer/songwriter Julie Doiron for an intimate gig on Saturday (May 11).

She is part way through a tour of some of the major cities of UK and Europe to accompany the release of her solo album So Many Days, and dropped into St Leonards last minute - luckily for us!

From the dream-like By the Lake to the melancholy Can’t Make it No More Julie has a beautifully rich voice, with an often haunting quality.

Her songs speak of the everyday but are so well constructed as to be incredibly powerful.
As well as playing tracks from the new album, Julie took requests from the audience, bringing out songs from her back catalogue, Tailor from her 2009 record I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day worth a special mention.

Support came from fellow Canadian Eamon McGrath with his country-infused folk rock.
