Best paw forward for homeless pets

NORTHIAM’S Blue Cross animal centre is appealing to local pet lovers to join in their annual spring sponsored dog walk on Sunday.

Put on your walking shoes and celebrate the return of spring by joining Blue Cross staff, volunteers and their dogs for a scenic stroll around the footpaths and lanes around Northiam. Everyone is welcome, with or without a canine companion.

Walkers can begin the hour-long route from the Blue Cross centre in Northiam at any time from 10am to noon. Refreshments will be available at the centre after the walk.

Maria Marmo, Blue Cross centre manager at Northiam, said: “Our sponsored walk has become a favourite for lots of our supporters, and dogs and owners alike always have a lovely day out.

“It’s a great way to welcome back the warmer weather and help to raise money for sick and homeless pets. We rely entirely on donations to care for the animals here at our centre, so events like this are vital for us to continue our work.”

Last year, funds raised by supporters helped the Northiam Blue Cross centre find happy new homes for over 200 dogs and cats.

All the money raised by the sponsored dog walk will go towards caring for dogs like Gemini (pictured) - a lively one-year-old Jack Russell who would love to find a happy new home. If you think you could give Gemini the second chance she deserves or would like to find out about all the other fantastic pets looking for homes at Northiam Blue Cross, visit www.bluecross.org.uk
