Bringing the most successful comedy in the West End back to The Stables

THIS revival of the 2011 sell-out Stables production replaces Our Man in Havana.

A show of which author says “depends on your actors’ level of Olympian fitness”, The 39 Steps is still running in the West End but as in 2011 the Old Town theatre has been granted special permission to perform it again.

Last year’s summer run was a sell-out leaving many people disappointed they were unable to get tickets. After a last minute postponement of the listed 2012 August show due to serious illness, director Chris Lacey has reassembled the original cast of Matt Davis, Alexandra Benedict, Bill Allender and Rob Hustwayte to bring the most successful comedy in the West End back to The Stables.

Between them the cast play 120 parts in a high energy, fast paced production which follows the spy story as originally written by John Buchan, then adapted by filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock and then written for the stage by Patrick Barlow.

Come and see how The Stables stage a plane crash and a chase across the Forth Rail Bridge. Yes it’s a spoof and there is wonderful comedy but it is also a love story with a very topical theme running through it that we need to look after each other and look after the world.

When the cast came together with the crew last week, Chris Lacey was amazed that after a year everyone was still on top of their lines and moves.

He said: “It’s a tribute to the quality of our company and the play that we can revive this show in so short a time”. He urged audiences not to miss this joyous version of“The 39 Steps.”
