THE picture of a Lewes Technical College carpentry class of 1944 (March 9) interested local man Simon Wicks who told Rouser: ‘The first young man standing in the foreground is my father Dennis Wicks who was a carpenter for eight years.

“He went on to be a well-known opera singer at Covent Garden and Glyndebourne.

“He still played around with wood, making dolls’ houses and things, until he died in 2003.”
