Leanne Howell has put up the display with her family at 37 Lindfield Drive and people can enjoy it every day from 4pm-8pm.

Leanne said, “We worked as a family and a couple of neighbours helped put together the display. Our aim is to put a smile on people’s faces.”

The lights are to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support as a close friend to Leanne has terminal lung cancer, 52-year-old Geoff Stewart.

Macmillan works to support people from diagnosis right through to treatment and beyond and Leanne said the charity has helped Geoff a lot.

Sarah Coxhill, Macmillan area fundraising manager, said, “We are so grateful to this supporter for this creative and festive way of raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“Macmillan has experienced a sharp drop in income this year, just as people living with cancer worry about disruption to their care and treatment, find themselves isolated from their support networks and face more financial hardship as the pandemic continues.

“Our services, like those delivered at Eastbourne District General Hospital, are already in high demand, with the level of need set to get even greater. In a recent report, Macmillan warned that as many as 50,000 people in the UK are living with undiagnosed cancer as a result of the disruption caused by Covid.

“This means that in addition to the growing number of people who already need our support, there will be an influx of people having cancer diagnosed at a later stage who have more complex medical and support needs. Our aim is to be there for everyone – physically, emotionally and financially – when they’re diagnosed, but we can’t do that without supporters like this.”
