Ten-year-old’s cheerleading moves raise money for Care for Carers

A ten-year-old from Eastbourne has put her cheerleading skills to good use and raised more than £500 in the 2.6 Challenge.

Scarlett Morland-Hopgood, from Rodmill, raised £510 for local charity Care for the Carers.

As part of the challenge, Scarlett performed a routine in her garden for 26 minutes including: 26 back handsprings, 26 round offs, 26 toe touches, 26 back walkover switch leg and 26 forwards rolls.

Scarlett said: “It was really fun doing the 2.6 challenge and it definitely kept me busy practising.

“This challenge helped me feel more confident with my cheerleading skills and I can’t believe that I’ve raised over £500.

“It has inspired me to start thinking about planning another fundraising challenge for next year.”

Scarlett’s proud mum, Vikki Fuller, said, “I’m so proud of what Scarlett has achieved over the past week.

“Scarlett is a cheerleader so she was always going to choose tumbling as her way of fundraising.

“She’s really enjoyed this challenge and it’s amazing what one child can achieve in such a small amount of time. This is something she has enjoyed being a part of whilst in lockdown.”

Jennifer Twist, CEO at Care for the Carers, said, “We are so proud of Scarlett. We want to say a big thank you to Scarlett as the money she has raised will go towards our work supporting carers, especially during this difficult time.”
