Wendy Deane, who keeps Dolly, Louis and two other donkeys at her home in Broadwater Lane, told the County Times that the donkeys were taken to Brighton to serve as life models and inspiration for a festive window display.

“I was approached by Choccywoccydoodah because they wanted to do a Christmas special,” she said.

The special, part of a series featuring the exploits of the eccentric Brighton-based confectioners, will involve staff creating a festive-themed display for their shop window.

The staff wanted a chocolate donkey for the display and, as the chocolatier in question had never had much to do with donkeys, they decided to surprise him with real ones.

Although they only wanted one donkey at first, Wendy explained that donkeys should always come in twos, as they tend to form very strong pair bonds.

Choccywoccydoodah Christmas will be on the Good Food Channel on December 8 (9pm), December 16 (7pm), December 22 (9pm), and December 23 (7pm).
