The Boar’s Head - landlord Steve Pollard after one year in charge

A troubled few years have seen The Boar’s Head, in Worthing Road, Horsham, endure several abrupt closures.

In May 2012, landlord Steve Pollard took over as general manager. This week, staff reflected on securing the tenancy and trying to provide the local community with a secure and stable focal point.

“The pub’s past has been extremely chequered for a number of years,” said a statement from the pub, “that has left the locals without a pub to go to, as previous tenants have been unable to make it a success.

“Steve is all about giving the community a friendly, warm welcoming establishment that provides good locally-sourced well priced food. The pub has some really exciting plans for the future with events for all.”

At present, The Boar’s Head has an open mic night on Tuesdays and a fortnightly quiz - the next one to be held on June 5.

Events currently being planned include casino nights, summer fun days, hog roasts and barbecues.

Staff are in the process of setting up a golf society and looking at forming other pub teams.

“Customers input is always welcome, to give them back what they would like to see in their local public house, he [Steve] will just be the driving force behind this.

“A new menu is currently in development which will offer a restaurant, bar and a summer terrace menu.

“This will be completed in a few weeks, whereby customers can come along and join in a tasting evening with us. We will be running food offers once the menu is finalised.

“The pub offers fantastic views of Surrey Hills for those forthcoming lazy summer days and evenings.”
