Figures showincrease in new homes being built

During the rolling quarter from March to May 2011, new homes registered totalled 32,562 compared with 32,352 in the same period last year.

Imtiaz Farookhi, chief executive at NHBC said, “During recent weeks feedback from housebuilders has revealed that uncertainty over proposed planning policies continues to make forecasts for the rest of the year difficult.

“However a shred of optimism is seeping back into the industry in part due to the government’s announcement of public land becoming available for housing development.”

This is backed up by developers Hillreed Homes who build homes in the South East. In 2010 the company had 11 sites on its books whereas this year, there are a total of 19.

Dean Markall, sales and marketing director says, “After lengthy delays in securing planning permission from local authorities we now have more locations than recent years.

Footfall per site is up on the same period last year, some of which is attributable to people who are now keener than ever before to get on with the job of moving home especially taking advantage of today’s interest rates.

For first time buyers, we offer a ten per cent or 15 per cent Equity Share Scheme (this is not Shared Ownership; buyer owns 100 per cent of the property), at many of our developments and for keen buyers unable to sell their own home there are opportunities for part exchange, all of which helps buyers secure their choice of new home.

From our perspective, the current property market is quite strong, helped in some measure by the incentives we offer, but more due to the location of our developments and the variety of house types on offer, with sales of high specification homes of £500,000 or more, selling equally quickly as two and three bedroom houses.

As a company we are keen to repeat these ingredients throughout the South East.”

Hillreed Homes has a wide choice of properties in Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire and full details of the developments and incentives can be found at www.hillreed.co.uk which is a brand new, easy to browse web site.
