The developer, Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said 51 properties have been allocated as affordable housing, meaning the development will offer buying opportunities for people at 'all stages of the property ladder'.

Shopwyke Lakes will also feature indoor community spaces and large areas of public open space.

A spokesperson said: "In-line with its commitment to supporting the communities in which it builds, Taylor Wimpey has joined forces with other homebuilders active in the area to agree collaborative contributions.

"Taylor Wimpey’s scheme provides funding for significant highways improvements to the Chichester Bypass (A27), along with financial contributions of over £1.5M towards local infrastructure including schools, libraries, a new community building and measures helping mitigate the impact of development on the Chichester Harbour Special Protection Area."

Roz Wells, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey Southern Counties, said building new homes is 'much more than just bricks and mortar'.

"It’s about creating a community," she said.
